| In response to the demand for a more brilliant signal indication to meet driving conditions, the Crouse-Hinds Company developed a completely new line of traffic signals around 1955. The new type H highway signals are equipped with 12-inch lenses, in contrast to the 8-inch lenses used in conventional signals. They were recommended for installation on major highways and other thoroughfares where traffic moves at high speeds and longer stopping distances are required. The K signal is a combination of a 12-inch red section with a standard 8-inch amber and green section. They combined the advantages of the large, brilliant red indications used in type H signals with the lower cost of the standard 8-inch signal sections. Type H and K signals were made the same as the D and DT signals. |
